Uther Vendrock

Uther Vendrock, famously known as The Silvered Star, was a legendary Platinum Dragon who played a pivotal role in defending the Sword Coast during the great draconic conflict three centuries ago. Alongside a renowned band of heroes, Vendrock stood against a devastating coalition of chromatic dragons—often referred to as the Chroma Conclave—that threatened to consume the North.

The Dragon War of the North

Three hundred years ago, the Sword Coast was a developing frontier. This prosperity was shattered when a destructive flight of Chromatic Dragons united to lay waste to the North. In response to this threat, the major cities and smaller settlements united to form the Lord’s Alliance.

To combat this draconic scourge, a legendary group of heroes assembled, among whom was Uther Vendrock. This band of defenders included:

Great Deeds and the Defeat of the Chromatic Flight

The combined forces of the Lord’s Alliance and these legendary heroes successfully drove the chromatic dragons back and scattered them across the world. Their victories included slaying Virethas, the Jade Queen outside the walls of Neverwinter. Lady Tanager Alagondar made the ultimate sacrifice to strike down Virethas, plunging her sword through the dragon’s heart to power a ward preventing her resurrection.

The remaining dragons were banished to the far corners of the world:

Depiction in the Dragon Barrow Carvings

The history of Uther and his companions is memorialized in a beautiful series of carvings within the central chamber of the Dragon Barrow. These carvings illustrate the conflict in four distinct panels:

  1. The Descent: The five chromatic dragons descending headfirst upon a burning Neverwinter and the Sword Coast.
  2. The Union: The seven heroes standing in a half-circle examining a plan on the ground. In this panel, Uther Vendrock is depicted in humanoid form as a sturdy dwarf wielding a shield and a warhammer.
  3. The Sacrifice: Lady Alagondar driving her sword through the heart of the Jade Queen as a single claw pierces her chest.
  4. The Aftermath: The four defeated dragons flying away with their backs turned. While Esfaloth enters a fey portal, and Kiara and Gorion board a ship, Uther Vendrock and Elminster are shown standing together outside an empty tomb built for Hrothgar alongside a frozen lake in the mountains near Kuldahar’s giant tree.

Legacy and Resting Place

Following the end of the conflict, Uther Vendrock passed away. The legendary Platinum Dragon is now deceased, his remains laid to rest on Stormwreck Isle.

Though Vendrock is gone, his legacy lives on as a symbol of justice and honor. However, dark forces, such as the Cult of the Dragon, continue to seek ways to undo the heroes’ ancient victories, hoping to recover the legendary Dragon Masks used to control the great wyrms and raise their slain foes, including Virethas, as Dracoliches.
