Skaldreth, The Red Rage
Skaldreth, widely feared as the Red Rage, is an ancient red chromatic dragon who once brought widespread devastation to the Sword Coast. Driven into exile centuries ago, this legendary beast represents a dormant but terrifying threat to the world.
The Dragon War of the North
Three hundred years ago, the emerging cities of Luskan, Neverwinter, Waterdeep, and Baldur’s Gate faced an unprecedented apocalypse when a group of Chromatic Dragons allied to lay waste to much of the North. Among these catastrophic forces was Skaldreth.
In desperate response to this Draconic coalition, the civilized settlements established the Lord’s Alliance, bringing together Waterdeep, Neverwinter, Silverymoon, and Baldur’s Gate. Backed by a legendary band of heroes—including Elminster Aumar, Lady Tanager Alagondar, and Hrothgar Hillsfar—the combined armies pushed the dragons back. To combat the draconic threat, Hrothgar and his companions constructed five magical dragon masks, one of each color, which granted immense power over the beasts and allowed the bearers to influence and control their minds. Through the power of these masks, the heroes convinced the Black, Red, and Blue dragons to fly away and never return to the northern Sword Coast. While the Green Dragon Virethas, the Jade Queen, was slain outside Neverwinter, Skaldreth and the other survivors were driven away into exile.
The Cult of the Dragon
In the shadow of Skaldreth’s exile, the Cult of the Dragon has grown. The cultists seek to locate the remaining dragons of the original flight, including Skaldreth, to crown them anew as lords of the north.
