Thalorian Stork
Thalorian Stork is a minor noble and the stern patriarch of House Stork, an exiled noble family residing on the desolate island of Stork’s Rest in the western reaches of the Moonshae Isles. Married to Selene Valcorn, Thalorian is defined by his bitter obsession with restoring his fallen house to its rightful place of honor at the High King’s side.
Family and Bloodline
The Stork family carries legendary blood, descending directly from the celebrated dragonslayer hero Lady Tanager Alagondar. Despite this noble lineage, Thalorian’s great-grandfather defied the High King of the Moonshaes by marrying into coastal raider and pirate clans. While their legendary blood spared them from execution, the entire house was banished to the far western outer isles—a harsh, salt-scoured exile that Thalorian deeply resents.
Thalorian and Selene have two children:
- Elire Stork: The eldest daughter and the family’s primary hope for redemption. Thalorian and Selene scraped coin from every corner of their fragmented holdings to fund her prestigious education under tutors from Alaron, rare tomes from Waterdeep, and placement in the elven academies of Silverymoon.
- Gilmore Stork: The second son, who was largely ignored by Thalorian and allowed to roam freely, as he was not expected to matter to the family’s legacy.
Beliefs and Stork Legacy
Thalorian is a devout adherent to the ancestral Stork family oath:
“To the High King, to Order and Civilization, against the Chaos of the Sea and the Magic of the Forest.”
He remains deeply bitter about his exile on Stork’s Rest, constantly asserting that the Storks belong at court rather than on a barren rock with “thin soil and thinner prospects.” He strongly disapproved of Gilmore’s childhood pastimes—such as winning the local Great Oyster Dive three years in a row—dismissing them as peasant activities unworthy of their noble bloodline. When Gilmore won the diving contest, Thalorian could only mutter about his son’s misplaced focus.
Following the tragic mauling of his father (Gilmore’s grandfather) by a forest guardian known as a Harthwyld, Thalorian and his household have strictly avoided the mystical, memory-stealing Glimmering Deep forest, believing the woods harbor an active grudge against the Stork bloodline.
