Othea
Othea is a revered maternal deity in the giant-kin pantheon, particularly worshipped by the Firbolg clans of Kuldahar, a unique settlement in Icewind Dale centered around an enormous world tree. She is recognized as a goddess of nature, community, and the home.
Worship and the Divine Balance
In the Kuldahar community, spiritual life is dictated by a preached balance among three distinct deities who protect the clans:
- Othea: The mother goddess of nature, community, and home.
- Diancastra: The goddess of trickery and planning, who was permitted by Annam the All-Father to create Kuldahar’s world tree.
- Torvik: The clans’ name for Ulutiu, the sleeping father of giant-kin and god of ice, wind, and anarchy.
While clerics and skalds preach balance among all three, Torvik’s deep slumber prevents him from actively answering prayers. Consequently, Othea and Diancastra are the primary active sources of divine power for the community’s clerics. Because of Othea’s prominent influence, the community’s way of life and its diplomacy are deeply rooted in the preservation of nature, domestic harmony, and clan unity.
