The Divine Gate

The Divine Gate is a legendary cosmic barrier erected by the Prime Deities at the culmination of The Calamity. It serves as an absolute shield, sealing the gods away from the Material Plane to protect the mortal races from the catastrophic consequences of unchecked divine conflict.

Origin and Purpose

During the devastating wars of the Calamity, the world was left scorched and its civilizations lay in ruins. Realizing the sheer destruction their conflicts brought upon the mortal realm, the Prime Deities came to a sorrowful decision. To protect their creations—the elves, dwarves, humans, and other young races—from the ruinous presence of the Betrayer Gods, they built the Divine Gate.

By creating this barrier, the deities permanently sealed themselves away. In doing so, they sacrificed their ability to physically manifest or walk upon the Material Plane. This act of self-imposed exile brought an end to the Calamity and marked the dawn of the current Age.

Cosmic Rules and Divine Influence

Following the sealing of the Divine Gate, the direct, physical intervention of deities on the Material Plane became impossible. From that moment onward, the gods could only exert their influence and channel their divine powers through their most devout mortal worshipers, such as clerics and paladins.

Astronomical Legacy

In the modern era, the physical presence of the Divine Gate is believed to be reflected in the cosmos. A long line of stars stretching across the middle of the horizon is widely believed to symbolize the Divine Gate and the Era of Divergence.

This celestial marker was not present during the Age of Arcanum, a time when deities like Selûne still walked the earth physically. When viewing illusions or projections of the ancient night sky from a thousand years ago, this prominent line of stars is notably absent, serving as a stark reminder of the era before the gods withdrew behind the Gate.
