Historical Role and the Calamity

Eons before recorded history, Erathis, along with other formless Prime Deities, arrived at a world churning in primordial chaos. Seeing boundless potential, they began to tame its state and seed mortal life, creating the elves, the dwarves, the humans, and other races. To help their children withstand the chaotic land, the gods bestowed upon them small slivers of their own essence, resulting in the birth of magic.

During the subsequent Age of Arcanum, humanity and other races flourished, perfecting their magics and spawning unimaginable feats of arcane innovation. However, this progress gave way to unchecked arrogance, sparking a catastrophic global war known as The Calamity.

During this conflict, a great schism divided the pantheon. While the Betrayer Gods—such as Asmodeus, Bane, Gruumsh, Lolth, Tharizdun, Tiamat, Torog, and Zehir—sought to completely destroy or enslave the mortal races, believing they could not be trusted with free will or magic, Erathis and her fellow Prime Deities stood in defense of their creations.

Following the devastating war, the Prime Deities recognized the ruinous destruction their physical presence inflicted upon the Material Plane. To safeguard the future of their children and protect the world from the Betrayers, they collaborated to construct the Divine Gate—a barrier that sealed the gods away from the physical world. Since this divergence, Erathis can no longer physically influence the world, and her divine power is channeled solely through her most devout worshipers.
