Jackson / Jaque

Jackson (also recorded in various chronicles as Jaque) is a halfling monk and one of the few individuals to survive the brutal siege of the Snowmont Monastery in the Sword Mountains.

The Siege of Snowmont

Located high in the freezing passes of the Sword Mountains, the Snowmont Monastery came under sudden and devastating assault by Ice Trolls and Ice Mephits. Although an adventuring party responded to a survivor’s plea and successfully defeated the trolls, the sanctuary was left in ruins, and many lives were lost. Jackson, alongside a companion monk (referred to interchangeably in different chronicles as the elf Caitlyn or the human Zoe), was among the precious few to make it out alive. In gratitude for their rescue, the surviving monks gifted the adventurers what remained of the monastery’s trove: a Pearl of Power, a Staff of Frost, and a Wind Fan.

Return to Phandalin

Following the destruction of his sanctuary, Jackson and his companion silently joined the adventurers on their trek back down the mountains toward the warmer air of the Phandalin Valley. The journey was shadowed by grief and the terrifying return of the white dragon, Cryovain, the Everfrost, who passed directly over the mountain peaks as the survivors fled.

Journey to Gnomengarde

After a brief respite in Phandalin, Jackson and his fellow survivor continued to travel alongside the adventurers (now known as the Magnificent Five). Accompanying the party, the ancient dwarf Gotrek, and the gnome academic Dusty, they set off toward Wave Echo Cave, eventually arriving at the entrance to Gnomengarde.

Because of King Korboz’s strict decree, the entrance was initially closed to visitors. When a cheerful female gnome offered hospitality but permitted only Nalini, Gilmore, and Farwald to enter the stronghold, Jackson and Zoe stayed behind. Along with Hope, Dusty, and Gotrek, the monks camped outside the safety of Gnomengarde’s gates while their companions investigated the strange occurrences within.
