Bahamut
Bahamut, widely revered as the Platinum Dragon, is a prominent member of the Prime Deities. Worshiped openly across the land, he is viewed as a highly beneficial and righteous deity who embodies the virtues of justice, honor, and protection.
Divine Domains and Patronage
Bahamut is the first of the metallic dragons, serving as both their creator and divine patron. His portfolio encompasses:
- Justice: The fair and impartial application of law and moral righteousness.
- Honor: Absolute integrity, chivalry, and adherence to noble principles.
- Good-Aligned Dragons: Guidance and guardianship over metallic dragonkind.
Unlike the Betrayer Gods, such as his sister and rival Tiamat, the Scaled Tyrant, Bahamut’s clergy and temples operate openly in civilized lands. They often cooperate with other lawful deities like Erathis, the Lawbearer, to maintain peace and order.
History and Legendary Champions
Bahamut’s mortal agents and champions have historically risen to defend the realm against the devastation of chromatic dragonkind. Among his legendary heroes of the past is Uther Vendrock, known as “The Silvered Star,” who is recorded as a Platinum Dragon.
Three hundred years ago, when a devastating flight of Chromatic Dragons attacked the emerging cities of the Sword Coast, Uther fought alongside a legendary band of heroes—including Lady Tanager Alagondar of Neverwinter and Elminster Aumar, the Sage of Shadowdale. This alliance successfully pushed back the dragons and slew the Green Dragon Virethas, the Jade Queen. Following his death, Uther Vendrock was buried on Stormwreck Isle.
Tarot and Symbolism
In divinatory customs, Bahamut is represented by the Justice tarot card.
- Fortune Interpretation: Represents fairness, justice, and honor.
- Iconography: A custom depiction of his card features “a shining silver dragon perched on a hill, overlooking a city,” symbolizing his watchful protective gaze over mortal civilization.
