The Circlet of Larrelion

The Circlet of Larrelion (also spelled Circlet of Larellion) is a legendary artifact of immense beauty and potency originating from the Age of Arcanum. Closely bound to the history of the Pact of Phandelver, this relic stands as one of the finest surviving examples of elven craftsmanship and arcane enhancement from a lost era, serving as a physical symbol of the legacy of the Hand of Sehahine.

History & Origins

The circlet was fashioned by Archmage Larellion, the quiet seer and steward of the Hand of Sehahine—a five-spired luminous tower of elven magic and prophecy. During a grand ceremony celebrating the alliance of the Pact of Phandelver, Larellion placed the delicate silver band upon the head of his gentler daughter, Agatha, whom he praised as the “Moonlit Prodigy.” This coronation took place in the presence of King Phandelver II of Highthorn and Queen Kima of Axeholm.

This act of public favoritism deeply wounded Larellion’s other daughter, Vyldara. Already bitter at living in her sister’s shadow, Vyldara’s jealousy curdled into spite and ambition. Seeking to prove her superiority to her father and sister, Vyldara initiated a series of tragic events. She traveled to Axeholm as an emissary, fomented civil unrest, and poisoned Queen Kima. After being cut down by the dwarven guard, Vyldara arose as a vengeful banshee, bringing ruin to Axeholm and causing the stronghold to fall silent.

Following the catastrophic fall of the Pact and the onset of the Calamity, the Hand of Sehahine went silent, and its remaining treasures, including the circlet, were locked away within the Forge of Spells.

Description & Properties

The Circlet of Larrelion is notable for its deceptive simplicity. It is a plain, silver band fashioned so finely that it appears “impossibly thin, as if it would bend or break by the gentlest of efforts.” Despite this fragile appearance, it remains a sturdy channel for magic. It is engineered specifically to enhance the spellcasting capabilities of its wearer, acting as a testament to the sophisticated arcane arts of the pre-Calamity elven lords.

Recovery from the Forge of Spells

The circlet remained undisturbed for a thousand years within Wave Echo Cave, sealed away in the Forge of Spells. It was protected by “The Blacksmith,” an enormous metal automaton serving as the Guardian of the Forge. The automaton was the finest creation of Gond, a legendary and highly talented mortal dwarf craftsman of the Age of Arcanum rather than a deity, who designed the Spell Forge.

After breaching the final seals, successfully activating Gond’s Smelter, and defeating the Guardian, a band of adventurers known as the Magnificent Five (also referred to as the Fantastic Five) recovered the circlet alongside other legendary treasures of the Pact, restoring this ancient relic to the modern era.
