Dunfold

Dunfold is the humblest of the three settled communities on the island of Stork’s Rest, which sits on the ragged, wind-torn western edge of the Moonshae Isles. Unlike the primary port of Pink Tor or the agricultural hub of Wraithcliff, Dunfold is a modest, rustic haven populated primarily by hard-working goat herders and potato farmers.

Geography and Infrastructure

Dunfold is situated on a salt-scoured rock with thin soil and meager prospects. Despite these harsh conditions, its residents eke out a living through pastoral farming and small-scale trade. The village features a rough pier that daring traders occasionally brave to swap goods.

Directly north of the village lies the Glimmering Deep, a dense, ancient magical forest that covers the northern half of the island and is notorious for erasing the memories and sense of time of anyone who enters. Nearby is Greyhaven, a rotting skeleton of broken piers swallowed by forest-magic and fog, serving as a stark warning to the villagers of Dunfold.

Culture and the Great Oyster Dive

Every summer solstice, the young men and farm boys of Dunfold participate in the island’s Great Oyster Dive. In this boisterous festival, divers plunge into the offshore kelp forests to retrieve magical oysters that absorb the strange energies of the Glimmering Deep. These oysters produce pearls that hum, glow, or grant whimsical blessings, which are highly prized by traders from Waterdeep.
