Avandra

Avandra, known widely as the Changebringer, is a prominent member of the Prime Deities. She is revered as the goddess of freedom, trade, travel, adventure, and luck. Positioned opposite the destructive and feared Betrayer Gods, Avandra is worshipped openly across the realm, seen by the public as overall beneficial, benevolent, or neutral.

Divine Attributes and Tarot Symbolism

In mystical divination, Avandra is closely associated with the Wheel of Fortune Tarot card. Her divine domains and fortunes encompass:

Her custom Tarot representations are often depicted as The Fork in the Road or Lady Luck, embodying the pivotal moments of choice and chance that define a traveler’s journey.

Worship and Clergy

Because of her association with luck and journeys, Avandra’s followers often express their faith in unconventional ways. Rather than strict, dogmatic rites, her worship is celebrated through the pursuit of adventure, taking chances, and surviving the perils of the road.

In the frontier town of Phandalin, her presence is kept alive by Deacon, a retired, blind adventurer who serves as the town’s doctor, shepherd, and part-time gambler. As a cleric of the Goddess of Luck, Chance, and Journeys, Deacon’s lifestyle reflects her belief that “the goddess of Luck and Journeys has her own way of worship.”

History and The Calamity

Eons ago, during the legendary Age of Arcanum, mortals lived alongside the deities in prosperity until their unchecked arrogance ignited The Calamity—a catastrophic war of divine and mortal factions.

When a schism erupted among the gods, the Betrayer Gods sought to destroy or enslave humanity. Avandra stood firmly alongside the Prime Deities, defending their mortal creations and believing in their capacity for free will and redemption. Following the devastating conflict, Avandra joined her fellow Prime Deities in creating the Divine Gate, sacrificing her ability to physically walk the Material Plane to seal away the Betrayers. Today, her divine influence and luck can only be felt and channeled through her most devout followers.
