Eole

Eole is a resilient half-elf ranger who wanders the frozen wilderness of the Throat of the World Mountains. Tempered by the brutal northern climate, she is a skilled survivalist, tracker, and guide who operates with a cautious and naturally distrustful demeanor toward outsiders.

Background and the Uthgardt

Eole is an orphan who was taken in and raised by a tribe of the Uthgardt, a nomadic people descended from the earliest human, elven, and half-elven settlers of the northern wastes. She lived peacefully among them until five years ago, when a devastating undead army led by wizards and cloaked figures systematically destroyed her tribe. Based on her detailed descriptions of the attackers’ uniforms, these perpetrators were identified as forces belonging to the city of Luskan. Since the massacre, Eole has survived alone, seeking information and harboring a deep quest for vengeance against the Luskan host.

Encounter in the Blizzard

While foraging along a mountain ridge, Eole observed the party marching unprepared into a violent blizzard. Initially wary of their intentions, she hid in a small cave for safety. However, when a sudden avalanche buried the group, she chose to intervene. She dispatched her raven familiar, Morgan, to help guide the survivors and personally dug the rogue Erevyn out of the snow drifts seconds before he suffocated.

During the rescue, she and the druid Nalini immediately recognized one another as nature-attuned souls. Though Eole easily detected Gilmore’s attempts to deceive her with a fabricated story about being guided tourists, she appreciated Farwald’s honest approach. The two parties struck a deal: Eole agreed to guide them through the perilous mountain territory toward Targos and the surrounding lakes in exchange for Farwald casting a Divination spell on her behalf. She also traded a warm snow-fox hat to Erevyn in exchange for a handful of magical walloping arrows.

Caravan Ambush and the Luskan Threat

During their journey, Morgan spotted an overturned caravan ahead that had been buried in the snow. The site proved to be a trap, as the party was ambushed by a powerful wight commander and several raised wights. Eole assisted in the defense, showcasing her martial prowess with a metal folding bow and a high-damage lightning arrow strike.

The skirmish revealed a critical vulnerability: the undead forces were immune to nonmagical weapon attacks, emphasizing Eole’s need for magically enhanced weaponry. Following the battle, the realization that these wights were connected to the Luskan forces that annihilated her Uthgardt tribe solidified her alliance with the party, uniting her quest for vengeance with their broader campaign against Luskan’s reach.
