Alaron

Alaron is a principal island and the cultural and political anchor of the Moonshae Isles. It represents the center of order, civilization, and the authority of the High King. It stands in stark contrast to the untamed, storm-swept outer islands of the archipelago, serving as a hub of wealth, elven academies, and noble courts from which prestigious tutors are ferried to educate the region’s elite.

The High King and the Exile of House Stork

For generations, the High King of the Moonshaes has ruled from the civilized heart of the isles, utilizing delicate marriage alliances to maintain unity among the scattered lands.

Originally, the noble House Stork—descendants of the legendary dragonslayer hero Lady Tanager Alagondar—held a rightful place at the High King’s side. However, this position was lost generations ago when Gilmore Stork’s great-grandfather defied the High King by marrying a woman tied to coastal raiders and pirate clans. While such a betrayal normally meant execution, the High King spared the family due to their legendary ancestry. Instead, he banished the entire house to Stork’s Rest, a far western island plagued by storms, raiders, and the memory-stealing magic of the Glimmering Deep.

Despite their exile, the Storks kept their eyes turned toward Alaron, scraping together coin to hire tutors from the main island to educate their eldest daughter, Elire Stork, in hopes of one day restoring their titles and returning to court.

The Oath of the Crown

Children of families loyal to the sovereign of Alaron are raised on a strict, ancient oath, representing the eternal struggle between civilization and the wild elements of the outer islands:

“To the High King, to Order and Civilization, against the Chaos of the Sea and the Magic of the Forest.”

Shadows Over the Moonshaes

Despite its veneer of civilization, the region remains shadowed by ancient and modern threats:
