Silverymoon

Silverymoon is a key civilized settlement situated in the northern regions of the Sword Coast. Alongside Waterdeep, Neverwinter, and Baldur’s Gate, it stands as one of the major bastions of civilization in a frontier otherwise defined by untamed wilderness and ancient ruins.

The only major city of the Lord’s Alliance which is majority Elvish, Silverymoon was originally founded by the Elvish people. It is an ancient and resilient metropolis, having survived even the devastating Calamity that marked the end of the Age of Arcanum.

Culture and High Society

Silverymoon is renowned for its prestigious institutions, including high-class Elven academies and boarding schools where students from noble houses across the realms are sent to master the refined manners, arts, and diplomacy of the High Elven courts. Among these young nobles was Elire Stork of the Moonshae Isles, who was sent to the city at the age of twelve to study and win favor for her exiled family.

Temples and Sacred Sites

Among the city’s grand holy places is a temple dedicated to the Matron of Ravens (the Matron of Death and Goddess of Fate). At the center of this temple lies a ceremonial pool filled with a dark liquid—revealed to be blood—which is used for profound spiritual communions. Seekers of the lost or deceased may fully submerge themselves in this pool to appeal to the Raven Queen; doing so can grant visions of fate and death, as experienced by the paladin Gilmore Stork during his quest to find his sister’s remains.

The Founding of the Lord’s Alliance

Three centuries ago, the North was pushed to the brink of ruin when a coordinated flight of Chromatic Dragons launched a devastating campaign across the region, laying waste to the emerging cities of the Sword Coast. While the city of Luskan chose to capitulate and offer tribute to the draconic invaders, Silverymoon stood firm.

To combat this existential threat, Silverymoon joined hands with Waterdeep, Neverwinter, Baldur’s Gate, and various smaller settlements to form the historic coalition known as the Lord’s Alliance. Together, their combined armies—bolstered by a legendary group of heroes including Elminster Aumar, Lady Tanager Alagondar of Neverwinter, Hrothgar Hillsfar of Kuldahar, Esfaloth Nightbreeze, Gorion of Candlekeep, Kiara Shadowbreaker, and the platinum dragon Uther Vendrock—confronted the dragons.

They successfully slew the green dragon Virethas, the Jade Queen, outside Neverwinter. The remaining Chromatic Dragons, including Cryovain the Everfrost, Skaldreth the Red Rage, Barakis the Sandstorm, and Nocturne the Dread Prince, were driven back to the far corners of the world, ushering in a long era of peace.

Modern Legacy and Perils

Though Silverymoon itself remains a beacon of order, the ancient peace established by the Lord’s Alliance is once again threatened. The Cult of the Dragon actively plots to raise the fallen Virethas as a Dracolich and crown the remaining dragons as lords of the North.

Silverymoon’s noble houses and schools have been directly targeted by these dragon-masked cultists. Approximately six months ago, Elire Stork was abducted from her boarding school and murdered by individuals wearing red masks shaped like dragons. The cult’s bold, aggressive actions in and around Silverymoon have deeply stirred local factions and prompted adventurers to investigate the growing draconic conspiracy.
