The Blade of Tristan

The Blade of Tristan is an ancestral sword tied to the legacy of the Tristan family of Phandalin.

Discovery

The blade was recovered from the crypts beneath Tristan Manor during a raid on the Redbrand gang’s cellar headquarters. It was found by the noble Gilmore Stork, though accounts suggest that the weapon “found him” instead. This mystical connection is believed to be rooted in genealogy, as Gilmore’s family—the Storks of the Moonshae Isles—shares ancestral ties with the Tristan bloodline.

History and Association

The blade’s recovery coincided with the liberation of the Tristan family. After the party defeated the wizard Glasstaff and rescued the three surviving Tristans, Myrna Tristan bequeathed the manor to the party (known as the Magnificent Five) to serve as a sanctuary and base of operations for the defenders of Phandalin.

The Battle of Dragon Barrow

The Blade of Tristan was later wielded by Gilmore in major conflicts along the Sword Coast. Most notably, during the descent into Dragon Barrow, Gilmore dual-wielded the Blade of Tristan alongside the legendary Dragon Slayer sword of his ancestor, Lady Tanager Alagondar.

Within the cavernous, bone-and-acid interior of the skeletal green dragon Villathas (the Jade Queen), Gilmore used the Blade of Tristan to fight through hordes of Dragon Cult fanatics. Channeling his paladin magic into a powerful Divine Smite, Gilmore struck down a cultist with three rapid strikes using both the Dragon Slayer and the Blade of Tristan, attempting to halt the resurrection ritual led by the Green Wyrmspeaker Sidorna.
