Annam
Annam (also known as Anman) is the supreme creator deity of the giant races, responsible for establishing the cosmic order that governs their civilization.
The Ordin and the World Trees
Annam is credited with the creation of the grand world trees. While his divine law typically enforces the rigid boundaries of the ordin—the cosmic hierarchy defining giant-kind—upon all giant descendants, his favored daughter, Diancastra, was granted a unique concession. Annam permitted her to cultivate a world tree in Kuldahar, within Icewind Dale, that exists entirely outside the constraints of the ordin.
As a result of this exception, the community of giant-kin guarding the Kuldahar tree—consisting of a dominant Firbolg population and isolated Storm Giants—lives a life of isolation and balance, free from the traditional strictures of giant society.
The First Challenge
Annam’s rule and his ordin have not stood without opposition. The ancient god of ice and wind, Torvik (known to other cultures as Ulutiu), is recognized in giant myths as the sleeping father of the giant-kin and the first challenger to both the ordin and Annam’s divine authority. This challenge set the foundation for the deep ideological split between the cosmic order of the All-Father and the wild, free-spirited nature of the giant-kin clans who revere the sleeping god.
