Easthaven

Easthaven (also written as East Haven) is a frontier settlement located in the frozen northern reaches of Icewind Dale, nestled on the shores of the icy lake Lac Dinneshere (also spelled Lac Dinnershear). Positioned as a crucial northern destination alongside the town of Targos, it lies near the entrance to the Dale and the ancient firbolg world-tree settlement of Kuldahar.

Geography and Surroundings

Easthaven is situated on the wind-blasted, frozen shore of Lac Dinneshere, a massive frozen lake in the shadow of the Throat of the World Mountains. The region is defined by its brutal, unforgiving winter climate, carrying the biting influence of ancient dragons and the slumber of Torvik, the sleeping father of giantkin. Traveling to Easthaven from the southern Sword Coast is a perilous journey, typically requiring a voyage through the hazardous, floe-choked waters of the Sea of Moving Ice followed by a treacherous land crossing through mountain blizzards and avalanche-prone passes.

Historical Significance and Hrothgar’s Tomb

Easthaven and the adjacent shores of Lac Dinneshere hold a monumental secret from the ancient dragon wars. Following the conflict three centuries past, the legendary hero Hrothgar Hillsfar (the true identity of the firbolg cleric later known as Farwald) was magically hidden away, his memories modified by the archmage Elminster Aumar to protect the secrets of the powerful Dragon Masks.

An empty tomb was constructed for Hrothgar on the shores of Lac Dinneshere to maintain the illusion of his demise. Beneath this empty grave, the heroes of the Lord’s Alliance buried the White Dragon Mask, a powerful artifact capable of controlling the white dragon Cryovain the Everfrost.
