Castle Never

Castle Never is the majestic fortress and seat of power in the city of Neverwinter, from which Lord Nasher Alagondar rules. Standing at the heart of the city’s Castle District, the fortress serves as the administrative and military heart of the “Jewel of the North.” Nearby, administrative structures such as the city admiralty stand as symbols of Neverwinter’s recovering governance. The castle hosts the meetings of the Small Council of Neverwinter, a select group of advisors who guide the city’s policies, manage its treasury, and oversee its defense.

The Small Council of Neverwinter

Lord Nasher Alagondar’s rule is supported by a small council consisting of several key figures who manage the day-to-day operations of the city-state from Castle Never:

Recent History and Wartime Mobilization

Castle Never has recently been a hub of intense activity. In the wake of the devastating “Wailing Death” plague—a magical affliction that ravaged the population a year prior—rebuilding efforts have been heavily directed from the castle.

Compounding these recovery efforts, war with the rival city of Luskan (the “City of Sails”) has been formally declared. Luskan forces recently captured Port Damali, and the council officially blames the plague on Luskan, holding key “evidence” within Castle Never. Lord Nasher has begun marshaling massive military forces to the north. Castle Never’s leadership is coordinating a large-scale logistics operation, and conscriptions are actively underway. At the city’s bustling docks, ships continuously unload massive shipments of lumber and war supplies, causing food and lumber prices across the region to skyrocket. Sildar Hallwinter has been recalled to the Griffon Knights—Neverwinter’s elite special forces—rendering him unreachable for now.

Interaction with the Magnificent Five

Following the events at Dragon Barrow—where the green dragon Villathas was awakened—the adventurers known as the “Magnificent Five” were confronted by Lady Aribeth and paladins of Helm’s Hold. Recognizing the ancient Firbolg hero Hrothgar Hillsfar (who had been traveling under the name Farwald) from chronicles three centuries old, Aribeth negotiated with the party.

Utilizing a sealed letter of recommendation from Sildar Hallwinter, the party managed to soften her stance. She formally summoned them to appear before the Small Council at Castle Never in three days’ time to present hard evidence of the Cult of the Dragon’s plot, warning them that without sufficient proof, they would face charges of grave-robbing. She grimly noted that the city’s Prisoners’ Isle—a high-security island prison located in the Peninsula District—“could always use a few more occupants.”

This high-security facility currently houses Talis.
