Selene Valcorn

Selene Valcorn is a minor noblewoman of the Moonshae Isles, wed to Thalorian Stork of the exiled House of Stork. Residing in the remote settlement of Pink Tor on the island of Stork’s Rest, she is the mother of Elire Stork and the paladin Gilmore Stork.

Family History and Exile

Selene’s married family, the Storks, were not originally meant to live on the desolate island of Stork’s Rest. Generations prior, Gilmore’s great-grandfather defied the High King of the Moonshaes by marrying a woman tied to coastal raiders and pirate clans. While they were spared from execution due to their descent from the legendary dragonslayer Lady Tanager Alagondar, the entire house was banished to the far western reaches of the isles, where they were left to contend with harsh storms, raiders, and the mind-bending magic of the Glimmering Deep.

Despite building tenuous alliances with the local pirate clans, the family remained deeply bitter about their displacement from the High King’s court, raising their children under a traditional family oath of duty, order, and civilization.

The Redemption of House Stork

As parents, Selene Valcorn and her husband, Thalorian Stork, scraped coin from every corner of their fragmented family holdings to invest in their elder daughter, Elire. They spared no expense to ensure she would be the one to redeem their fallen house, paying for tutors ferried in from Alaron, purchasing rare and expensive tomes from Waterdeep, and eventually securing her placement in the prestigious Elven academies of Silverymoon. Selene and Thalorian pinned all their hopes on Elire winning favor at court, restoring their noble titles, or solving the mystery of the Glimmering Deep.

Because of this immense pressure placed on Elire, Selene’s second son, Gilmore, was largely ignored and allowed to roam the island freely, as he was never expected to inherit or matter to the Stork legacy.
