The Castle District
The Castle District stands at the political and administrative nucleus of the city of Neverwinter, the “Jewel of the North.” As the city steadily recovers from the devastating aftermath of the Wailing Death plague and handles brewing conflicts with rival powers like Luskan, the Castle District serves as a primary symbol of Neverwinter’s recovering governance, resilience, and military organization.
Castle Never
At the absolute heart of the district stands Castle Never, the formidable fortress from which Lord Nasher Alagondar rules the city and its surrounding frontier. It is the seat of executive authority and the primary meeting place for the city’s leadership.
The Neverwinter Council
Lord Nasher governs with the assistance of a small, specialized advisory council of key municipal and military leaders who coordinate the city’s defense, finance, and intelligence:
- Aribeth de Tylmarande: The Captain of the Guard and Lord Nasher’s trusted “Right Hand.” An elven paladin of Erathis who survived a tragic massacre in her youth at Thundertree, she is a widely revered champion of Neverwinter. She handles high-level investigations and commands the city’s martial defense.
- Lucien Nightshade: The city’s Spymaster. Unknown to the public, he also operates as the chapter leader of the local Zhentarim, maintaining a double life from his manor in the high-class Blacklake District.
- Archmage Vael Tarmyth: The city’s high-level advisor on arcane and magical matters, though historical records note he rarely attends council meetings.
- Count Gelden Allfield: The city’s Treasurer, notorious for constantly complaining about the lack of available funds for municipal projects.
- Aldis Trueshot: A Captain of the city forces who serves as the Master at Arms for Neverwinter.
- Finster Lionheart: The Admiral and Shipmaster of Neverwinter.
Governance and Admiralty
Beyond the walls of Castle Never, the Castle District houses the central administrative buildings of the city. Among these, the admiralty stands as a crucial monument to Neverwinter’s efforts to reclaim its historical trade dominance along the Sword Coast and manage the flow of vital resources. In times of impending conflict, the district becomes a hub of activity, directing wartime preparations, overseeing heavy supply imports at the adjacent docks, and coordinating with elite military branches like the Griffin Riders to secure the northern frontier.
