The Hall of Justice
Located within the serene Temple District of the City of Neverwinter, the Hall of Justice stands as a magnificent bastion of law, governance, and divine order. It serves as the primary seat of power for the followers of Erathis, the Lawbearer, who are charged with maintaining civic order, administering justice, and keeping the peace throughout the city and its surrounding frontier.
Location and Setting
The Hall of Justice is situated in the heart of Neverwinter’s Temple District, a key administrative and spiritual zone recovering from the hardships of the Wailing Death plague. The district also houses other tranquil and significant sites, including the peaceful Raven’s Rest and the Druid Grove of the Emerald Enclave. In contrast to the bustling, lawless slums of Beggar’s Nest or the commercial chaos of the Market District, the Temple District—anchored by the Hall of Justice—represents the structured recovery of the city, serving as a beacon of civilization on the edge of the wild Sword Coast.
The Divine Order of Erathis
As the patron deity of the Hall of Justice, Erathis is the Prime Goddess of civilization, laws, peace, and trade. Her followers, including judicial clerics, inquisitors, and paladins, seek to uphold the rule of law and protect organized society against the untamed chaos of the wild lands. In holy scripture and spiritual symbology, Erathis is represented by the “Scales” and is associated with the tarot card of “Judgement.”
Affiliated Institutions and Figures
While the Hall of Justice represents the physical heart of civic law inside Neverwinter, its influence and the worship of Erathis extend outward through various associated figures and external fortifications:
- Lady Aribeth de Tylmarande: The Captain of the Guard and the trusted “Right Hand” of Lord Nasher Alagondar. Originally a sole survivor of a tragic massacre in Thundertree, Aribeth was rescued near death in the snow by a figure she believed to be an avatar of Erathis. Guided to a monastery dedicated to the Lawbearer, she embraced the teachings of justice to conquer her obsessive desire for vengeance, ultimately rising to become a champion of Neverwinter and the first woman and non-human to serve on Lord Nasher’s Small Council.
- Helm’s Hold: Located along the road to Neverwinter, Helm’s Hold is a heavily fortified monastery dedicated to Erathis, the god of justice and order. It is intensely warded against otherworldly beings and guarded by devout, strict paladins who enforce absolute discipline.
- Sandra: A halfling cleric stationed at Helm’s Hold who possesses the power to cast restorative magics, such as Lesser Restoration, to clear the minds of those suffering from arcane afflictions.
