Asmodeus

Asmodeus is a powerful entity, recognized as the devil god of domination and the supreme ruler of the Nine Hells. Categorized among the Betrayer Gods, Asmodeus plays a dark and influential role in the cosmos.

Divine Profile

As the supreme ruler of the Nine Hells, Asmodeus represents domination, authority, and tyranny. In the divination traditions of the realm, he is associated with the Tarot card The Devil, which portends lies, control, and deceptive situations where things appear other than they truly are. His custom depiction on this card is a two-faced figure—half angel, half devil—seated upon his dark throne. While the public views the Betrayer Gods as destructive or harmful, they are nonetheless understood to hold a necessary place in the balance of the world.

The Calamity

Eons ago, during the legendary Age of Arcanum, a division arose among the deities. Asmodeus and the other Betrayer Gods sought to completely destroy or enslave the mortal races, believing they could not be trusted with free will or the power of magic. This conflict culminated in the Calamity, a catastrophic war that scarred the world. To protect creation, the Prime Deities established the Divine Gate, physically sealing Asmodeus and his cohort away from the Material Plane.

Underdark Rivalries

Nezznar, a loyal follower of Lolth (also known as Lloth), prayed to his deity, claiming his excavations of the legendary Forge of Spells in Wave Echo Cave would give her a distinct advantage over Asmodeus. This plot was ultimately disrupted when Nezznar was defeated and slain in Wave Echo Cave by the adventuring group known as The Magnificent Five.
