Sending Stones
Sending stones are rare, paired magical items utilized for instantaneous communication across vast distances. In the volatile landscape of the Sword Coast, where factions constantly vie for control and secrecy is paramount, these stones serve as invaluable tools for coordinating high-stakes operations.
The Wyrmspeaker Communication Network
During the resurgence of the Cult of the Dragon, sending stones were utilized at the Dragon Barrow. This network of stones was designated for communication between the Wyrmspeakers—the high-ranking leaders of the cult who coordinate the efforts of the various chromatic dragon factions.
The local cell was commanded by Sidorna, the Green Wyrmspeaker, who was stationed within the hollowed skeletal remains of the ancient green dragon Virethas, the Jade Queen, beneath the barrow. Operating from this dark sanctuary of bone-white stalagmites and acidic pools, Sidorna utilized sending stones to maintain constant, secure contact with other Wyrmspeakers across the realm to coordinate their overarching plots.
Discovery in the Ruins of Dragon Barrow
Following the dramatic battle at the Dragon Barrow and the subsequent escape of the weakened, resurrected Villathas, the party’s rogue, Er#vyn Sehahine, searched the wreckage of crates and dragon-headed ornamentation. Among the debris, he discovered a cracked blue sending stone, its surface unnaturally smooth save for a fracture running down its middle.
Nearby lay the shattered shards of a second sending stone in black. Investigation revealed that these two stones had been used by cult members to communicate across continents. Erevyn pocketed the fractured blue stone, keeping the discovery to himself for the time being.
