Mikael
Mikael is a wayward merchant and experienced negotiator who crossed paths with the adventuring party known as The Magnificent Five in the wilderness of the Sword Coast, near the ruins of Conyberry.
Encounter and Deal
During an evening walk near the ruined temple of Ioun, the noble Gilmore discovered Mikael in a state of distress, having clearly been mugged. Seizing an opportunity for mutual benefit, the party struck a bargain with the stranded merchant. In exchange for escorting him safely back to the frontier town of Phandalin, Mikael agreed to provide them with a commissioned painting to decorate their newly acquired residence, Tristan Manor.
Additionally, Mikael entered into negotiations with the party to assist them in fencing a humongous golden bell they had salvaged from the temple of Ioun. To make transport feasible, the party’s spellcasters, Farwald and Nalini, melted the massive bell down into smaller, manageable pieces to store within their bag of holding.
Skirmish at the Temple Ruins
That same night, the camp was ambushed by a Green Dragon Wyrmling and three Dragonborn attackers (two Green, one White) seeking to reclaim a magical pendant from Gilmore. Despite being a merchant in distress, Mikael did not cower entirely during the brutal struggle. He actively aided the party by shouting encouragement, attempting to flank the attackers, and firing off shots with his crossbow, contributing what he could to the party’s narrow victory.
Return to Phandalin
At first light following the skirmish, the party broke camp and made their way back to Phandalin. Upon arriving at Tristan Manor, their end of the escort bargain was fulfilled. Gilmore secured Mikael’s departure by putting him safely on a wagon. Meanwhile, Gilmore sold off the salvaged golden bits of the bell to Deacon for 2,600 gold pieces, utilizing the advice of the experienced merchant.
