The Chroma Conclave
The Chroma Conclave was a legendary and terrifying coalition of chromatic dragons that attempted to conquer and rule the North three centuries ago. During their reign of terror, these massive serpentine beasts cast a dark shadow over the Sword Coast, asserting their dominion with elemental fury and claw. Following their eventual defeat or disappearance, the region enjoyed a three-hundred-year respite from the threat of dragons, relegating the Conclave to the status of myth and historical warning.
Historical Legacy
For three centuries, no dragons were spotted in the skies near the Phandalin Valley or the surrounding Sword Mountains. The memory of the Chroma Conclave lingered only in old histories, dusty tomes, and the cautionary tales of elders. This long era of peace led many civilized settlements along the frontier to believe that the age of draconic tyranny had permanently ended.
The Return of the Dragon Threat
The legacy of the Chroma Conclave has recently been thrust back into the minds of the people of the Sword Coast. Following a devastating attack on the Snowmont Monastery, a massive white dragon named Cryovain, the Everfrost, was witnessed flying over the Sword Mountains. Soon after, knowledge of another chromatic dragon, a green dragon named Virethas, the Jade Queen, came to light through the memories of the adventurer Farwald and lore associated with Lady Alagondar.
In the makeshift councils of Phandalin, the sudden reappearance of these beasts has sparked deep anxiety. Local figures, including Sildar Hallwinter and Townmaster Harbin Wester, have noted with dread that a dragon has not been seen in the region since the dark days of the Chroma Conclave, raising fears that a new era of draconic ruin is close at hand.
